Targeting allows admins and managers to designate which contacts will receive messages in a goal. Broadcast, Dialer, and P2P (beta) goals all share the same targeting filters. For more on the types of goals available in Hustle see Which type of goal should I use?
You can tailor the targeting of these goal types based on the following filters:
- Tags: The tags applied to contacts. For more information about tags, see How do I use tags?
- Custom Fields: The data in Custom Fields. For more information about Custom Fields, see How do I use custom fields?
- Groups: Include all the contacts included in one or multiple groups.
- Contacts: Include only contacts who are textable, callable, or NOT textable.
- Goal Results: Target contacts who were or were not contacted in a previous Broadcast or Dialer goal, filtering based on the results. For more information, see What are lead actions?
Note: Broadcast, Dialer and P2P goals also include default targeting filters.
- Who are textable or callable - P2P and broadcast goals can only target textable (mobile) contacts; Dialer goals can only target callable contacts. This filter cannot be removed from goals.
- In active groups - excludes contacts in archived groups from the targeting. If this is removed, please note the goal will target all contacts across all groups in the organization, both active and archived.
Note:: Contact targeting can’t be edited after a goal is launched. For Broadcast, Dialer, and P2P goals, targeting is locked at the time of launch - after a goal is launched the list of contacts who will be included in workflows cannot be changed. Group goals have dynamic targeting, while P2P, Broadcast, and Dialer goals do not.

What are the different targeting filters?
There are five types of targeting filters for Broadcast, Dialer, and P2P goals:
Tags
Tags are an excellent way to segment contacts and target them in goals. Combining multiple tag targeting filters help you get even more specific with who you want your goal to reach. When targeting tags, you can choose three types of filters:
- Have all of these tags: Target contacts that have all of the selected Tags.
- Have any of these Tags: Target contacts that have any of the selected Tags.
- Does NOT have any of these tags: Message contacts that do not have any of the selected Tags. (e.g like Moved or Wrong number)
Custom Fields
Custom fields allow you to track a wide variety of data for your contacts. When targeting Custom Fields, you can choose four types of filters:
- Is any of these: Contacts that have any of the entered values in the selected Custom Field.
- Is NOT any of these: Contacts that have data in the Custom Field that is not any of the values entered.
- Has any value: Contacts that have any value in the selected Custom Field.
- Has a blank value: Contacts that have the selected Custom Field blank.
Note: Targeting Custom Fields is case-sensitive.
Groups
Since Broadcast, Dialer, and P2P goals are all launched at the organization-level, you can choose one or multiple groups to target all contacts that have been imported to those groups.
Note: Keep in mind the default filter will apply to which contacts can be targeted in a group - Dialer goals can only target callable contacts, while Broadcast and P2P goals can only target textable contacts.
Contacts
This filter allows you to narrow your list to only contacts of the following types:
- Textable
- Callable
- NOT textable
Note: Keep in mind the default filter already in place for goals - Dialer goals can only target callable contacts, while Broadcast and P2P goals can only target textable contacts.
Goal Results
When targeting Goal Results, you can choose Broadcast Goal Results or Dialer Goal Results to use the results from any previous Broadcast or Dialer goal in the organization to narrow your targeting.
For Broadcast Goal Results targeting, select one or multiple Broadcast goals from the dropdown or search by name, then choose 'targeted in' or 'not targeted in':
Select from one or multiple goal results 'Contacted', 'Not Contacted', 'Replied', 'Did Not Reply':
For Dialer Goal Results targeting, select one or multiple Dialer goals from the dropdown or search by name, then choose 'targeted in' or 'not targeted in':
Select from one or multiple goal results 'Contacted', 'Not Contacted', 'Answered, 'Voicemail', 'No Answer', 'Retry Later', 'Not In Service':
Note: Targeting on P2P Goal Results is not currently available, but will be coming soon!
Things to note with goal results targeting:
• The goal results filter can only target previous goals launched in the same Hustle organization.
• When combining filters, keep in mind they will have an 'and' logic, so be aware filters can negate one another.
How do I use multiple targeting filters?
Any number of targeting filters can be combined to narrow down the contacts messaged in a goal.
Note: Targeting filters operate on an and logic, meaning only contacts who count in all of the targeting filters set will be included in the goal. Keep the following in mind when using multiple targeting filters to target contacts.
Tags
When using multiple tag targeting filters, only contacts that fall into both filters will be targeted.
- E.G. In the below example (where two tag targeting filters are being used) only contacts with the Accepted tag AND who don't have the Wrong number tag are being targeted.
Custom Fields
When using multiple Custom Field targeting filters, only contacts with both specified values, in both Custom Fields, will be targeted.
- E.G. In the below example (where two Custom Field results targeting filters are being used) only contacts who have oakland in the Custom Field "city" AND have berkeley in the Custom Field "campus" are being targeted.
Goal results
When using multiple goal results targeting filters, only contacts whose response falls into both filters will be targeted.
-
E.G. In the below example (where two goal results targeting filters are being used) only contacts who were messaged by agents in the selected goal, AND responded to the agent's message are being targeted.
