Admins can add contacts (also known as leads) to Hustle groups:
- individually
- via CSV file
- via a third-party integration
To add leads into Hustle, you’ll at least need to enter and specify the lead's:
- First name
- Last name
- Phone number
For information on how many leads you can add to a group, see What are the limits for groups, agents & contacts?

How do I add a single contact to a group?
To add contacts individually:
- From the admin panel, click Groups > the name of the group you want to add contacts to.
-
Click Contacts > Add Contacts.
- Click Add Contact.
- Enter the contact’s information and Click Save.
- If you plan on assigning contacts, you can also assign the contact to an agent here.
- If Notify Agent is checked, a push notification will get sent to the agent letting them know about their new assigned contact.
Note: In shared groups, when contacts are Assigned, contacts can only be messaged by their assigned agents. For more information, see How do I use shared groups?
How do I add contacts to a group via CSV?
To add contacts in bulk, admins and managers (with this permission) will need to use a CSV file with the information of the leads.
Note: The file size limitation for CSVs is 10MB.
With the CSV file:
- From the admin panel, click Groups > the name of the group you want to add contacts to.
- Click Contacts > Add Contacts.
- Click Choose a CSV file.
- After you’ve selected your CSV file, use the drop down menu to map the phone number, first name, and last name headers to the columns of your CSV file.
- To update contact-specific time zones, admins can map to the postal code field during a CSV import. Admins can view the postal code field on the Organization Contacts table, see How do I see my Organization's Contacts? Contacts with postal codes will have their Hours of Operations enforced based on their local timezone for Broadcast goals. Admins can control the settings when they are setting up Broadcast goals. For more info, see How do I set Hours of Operations?
- If you plan on assigning contacts, you can assign leads to agents by using the drop-down menu under How do you want to assign new contacts? For more information about Assigned contacts, see How do I use shared groups? Note: When contacts are assigned, only the assigned agent can message the contact. Leave contacts unassigned if you want every agent in the group to be able to message and respond to every contact.
- Use custom fields to add additional fields like county or custom ID to your contact list while importing leads. For more information about custom fields, see How do I use custom fields?
- Click into the field at the bottom of the page and select any tags you’d like to apply to the leads in the import. For more information about tags, see How do I use tags?
- Click Import Contacts to start adding the leads into the group.
• The unique identifier of leads is their phone number; if a number appears twice in an import, Hustle will correct the list so only one record exists per phone number. If a lead has more than one phone number, Hustle will create a contact for each mobile phone number.
• If you upload a phone number that already exists in the group, Hustle will still dedupe and keep one lead record, but any new information about the lead (Custom fields, tags, name, etc.) will get updated.
• During the import, Hustle "scrubs" the phone numbers to determine if it's a mobile, landline or VOIP number. If a number is a landline or VOIP number, it’ll be marked as untextable. For more information, see Do landlines count toward contract limit?
• For instructions on how to remove contacts, see How do I deactivate a contact in a group?
How do I add contacts to a group via an integration?
Hustle has a number of integrations available with third-party databases (VAN, Salesforce, Blackbaud. TeamRaiser etc.) that allow you to share the data you collect in Hustle with those databases and vice versa. For more information about Hustle’s integrations, see Integrations.
How do I add contacts with Audiences?
New feature: Audiences are the newest way to organize and target your contacts in Automations and (coming soon) goals! Check it out: How do I use Audiences?
Admins can create and add contacts to Audiences by importing a CSV or importing directly from TeamRaiser.
Add via CSV Import
Note: There is a CSV file size limit of 250MB.
During a CSV import, Hustle will automatically match the CSV Field to the corresponding field in Hustle. If a Hustle Field Name is not automatically detected, admins can add a new Audience Field for new categories.
- Click Create Audiences and select Create from CSV.
2. Upload your CSV and select one of the following options to organize your Audience:
-
Single Audience: Create one Audience from your CSV.
- Fill in the Audience Name
- Apply tags to your Audience. Please note that admins will need to create the tags first from the Tags menu on the admin panel. Admins can skip this step.
- Map fields to configure the data for your Audience
- Use Existing Category: Select an existing Audience Category. If this category is used in an automation, contacts in the import may also enter them in the automation, if they meet the automation's criteria. More info at How do I set up Automations with Audiences?
- Create New Category: Customize fields and create a new Audience Category. More info at What are Audience Categories?
- During this step, admins can switch between using an existing category or a creating a new category at any point before finalizing the import.
- Switch to new category: If an admin has already selected a Category, switching to a new category discards that selection and re-populates the CSV's fields.
- Switch to existing category: Select a different Category to use for the Audience.
-
Multiple Audiences: Create multiple Audiences (Ex. one Audience per Event Name).
- Select the CSV field header that will separate and name each Audience.
- For example, selecting the Event Name field header creates an Audience for each value in the Event Name column (i.e. Seattle Walk/Run 2026, Portland Walk/Run 2026, Los Angeles Walk/Run 2026, etc.). Field data within each Audience is unique and independent from other Audiences.
- Select the CSV field header that will separate and name each Audience.
- Admins can view the Contact Preview column to see how the data will show up in Hustle and select the Show to Agents option for the Audience Fields they want to be visible to agents.
3. Once admins have finished customizing their Audience, click Create Audiences or Create Audiences & Save As New Category.
4. When the import starts, admins will be able to confirm or cancel their imports using the Current Imports tab. An email notification will also be sent and admins can download the Skipped Report to view any errors.
5. Once the import is complete, another email notification will be sent and admins can view the following data in the Past Completed Imports tab:
- Date
- Status
- Import Type
- Audience Category
- Audiences Added/Updated
- Records Added/Updated
- Records Skipped
- Created By

Add via TeamRaiser Import
During a TeamRaiser import, after entering the Event ID from TeamRaiser, Hustle will automatically fill in the fields from your TeamRaiser Event. These fields will be designated as System Fields and cannot be edited or removed from Audiences.
- Click Create Audiences and select Create from TeamRaiser.
2. Add one or multiple TeamRaiser Event IDs. An Audience will be created from each Event ID using the TeamRaiser event name.
3. During this step, admins can control the setting to Automatically sync contacts daily from TeamRaiser.
4. Apply tags to your Audience.
- Please note that admins will need to create the tags first from the Tags menu on the admin panel. Admins can skip this step.
5. Map fields to configure the data for your Audience.
- Use Existing Category: Select an existing Audience Category. If this category is used in an automation, contacts in the import may also enter them in the automation, if they meet the automation's criteria. More info at How do I set up Automations with Audiences?
- Create New Category: Load all TeamRaiser event participant fields to customize field mapping. More info at What are Audience Categories?
- During this step, admins can switch between using an existing category or creating a new category at any point before finalizing the import.
- Switch to create new category: Use the field headers from the TeamRaiser Event instead of a Category. If an admin has already selected a Category, switching to a new category discards that selection and re-populates the TeamRaiser Event fields.
- Switch to Category: Select a different Category to use for the Audience.
6. Once the import starts, admins will be able to confirm or cancel their imports in the Current Imports tab. An email notification will also be sent and admins can download the Skipped Report to view any errors.
7. Once the import is complete, another email notification will be sent and admins can view the following data in the Past Completed Imports tab:
- Date
- Status
- Import Type
- Audience Category
- Audiences Added/Updated
- Records Added/Updated
- Records Skipped
- Created By
- See Import Details
Note: Keep in mind that each TeamRaiser Audience has a 50,000 contact max.
